Density
Exhibition project with Daphne Kotsiani
As an image-making duo, we create imagery that explores the relationship between the poetic photographic gaze and memory associations that reflect on the nature of existence. We draw inspiration from natural phenomena and the geography of landscape, using subjective imagination as a creative tool to shape a common vision that reflects collective consciousness and creates liminal imaginary spaces. We combine different techniques and expressionistic gestures to create sublime and intense narratives that challenge linearity and representation. We consider the images to function as a symbolic portrait of the human.
In physics, the definition of density is the mass per unit volume of a substance. It is a property that does not depend on the amount of the substance, but only on its type and current state. In the image-making process, we implement the concept of density to exhibit our common vision, merging images from our latest works "Forecast" and "These Earthly Shores".
Our practice experiments with a rich and multi-dimensional photographic language of symbols and metaphors, while an emergence based on the state of the current appearance that each image holds unfolds. Thus, this combined and layered imagery creates a new realm that transcends the representational boundaries of space, time, and identification.
